So you just got a V6 Mustang and you wish to make it faster. Well there are a few things you will or should be aware of before you consider this. As im sure a few older gents on here would straight back me up on this post so here we go.

1. What are your longterm goals because of this new car?

2. What's your present budget to spend with this car?

3. Do you want to make it a daily driver? Trailer queen? or road course?

4. What's you fundamental knowledge of vehicles and electrical systems?

5. Are you experiencing the time?

Many people need the fastest car, the very best looking car or the loudest car. That's because everyone else who owns a gets the itch. And im maybe not talking about down there, im talking about the energy itch, the rate itch, the capacity to simply take that place at 55 and come out running.

With many important bolt on mods, you can do them yourself with some specialty tools and a good group of hand tools. Some need welding, which most places can do for a set rate of "X" quantity of dollars where "X" may be the hourly shop rate.

Now were going to enter the specific mods.

CAI- Cool Air intake.

There are many different type of CAI available available on the market. The air filter is placed by the fenderwell CAI in the fenderwell to get cool air as it rushes beneath the passenger headlight. This is a fantastic first mod, becuase all you have to are some hand instruments and the intructions.

Plastic versus. Metal

These are the 2 kinds of products CAI can be found in. Many people just like the metal chrome covered types because it adds a pleasant look underneath the cover. Unfortunately Metal gets hotter from outside sources( ie., engine bay) and internal friction of the air passing through it. Plastic on the other hand keeps cool becuase it's not really a conductor of heat. the engine bay heat or air friction won't cuase this consumption to heat up.

Mass Air Indicator and Housing

This really is the piece that's inside your stock air box, and is, I think, certainly one of the bottle necks on the intakes today. The Mass Air Sensor, or MAS, measures the number of air coming in to the motor and sends that information to the ECU, where the ECU does its thing and tell Mr. Fuel Injector's just how much fuel to remove in accordance to the Air Fuel combination. Lets say you've a (76.1mm) CAI and a share MAS. Youll be attracting many air rapidly @ Available Throttle, or WOT.

Lets do a in home test, when you have a cylindrical container about 6-12" long obtain it. If it is available on both ends, it was thrown by blow, and what happened? The air arrived the otherside without dilemmas, right? Now hide 1/3rd of the other end and decide to try again, little tougher? Same concept in your consumption. However need convincing? Maybe you have tried to vaccum up some thing to big for the vaccum? kinda struggled didnt it? exactly.

Throttle Human anatomy

This really is some of those black sheep elements where bigger isnt better. 99+ Stock I think has a 65mm Throttle Human anatomy, or TB from now on. If your not turbo, supered or No2'ed this mod should not be in the near future until after having a Power Adder, or PA.

Headers

Well, yet again this is another mod that does not do any such thing for your vehicle if you have important mods and are getting for a PA in the foreseeable future, usually, youll acquire some hourse of "Fun"

Fatigue

The next mod a lot of people will do if not the first on the mustang. When concidering a fatigue you have to take into account that the V6 won't ever seem like a V8, its difficult unless you get 2 more cylinders. The stock V6 exhaust comes out of each exhaust manifold and "Y"'s in to on following the catalytic converters. When investing in a set, you can either look for one which is full, meaning is sold with the Y adapter and passenger area hangers for the tailpipe and muffler. Or you can piece together one for a few dollars cheaper and hope all of it fits. My guidance, dont get low priced, becuase you get what you purchase. Which brings me to backpressure. As soon as your choosing your exhaust be sure you dont look at 2.5" otherwise youll lose backpressure. without backpressure the V6 will hate you and will not work right at all. You are able to get greater then 2.5" if your Turboed or Supercharged, other then that I wouldnt recommend it.

Exhaust Tips

We can get this one from our axis the ricers. Exhaust tips dont add HP they add sound, it is when you add 3.5" tips on your own 2.5" fatigue more of a effect, you think it is faster becuase the package says "adds up to 5 RWHP!!!" well it doesnt. Nevertheless when you be in your car or truck seems louder then it did before, so you think its faster.

Under Drive Pulleys

There are several out there some are cheap and some are costly. Things to look for when buying a set could be the harware they include, guidelines and a package deal. RPM-Outlet has 42% MotoBlue Underdrive Pulleys, or UDP to any extent further, for about $208 shipped. If you have a huge music in your car or truck, I would say 2000-5000Watts, you actually want to be carefull of the UDP's. They'll affect your cooling, receiving and Air Condition, and can slow your accessories some. They will not influence everycar, but there's a chance.
