I am sure you, like me, are inundated with emails, discussions and ideas about goal setting, particularly each new year. If I had a dime for each email I have received since Jan 1st that discussed goal setting, I'd be a rich woman! Yet, have I established my goals down in some recoverable format yet? Number, I've not. Until this week, I've been busily trying to prevent the whole topic, without doubt because I've had limited success with achieving any goals I'd actually in writing in years past.

Then recently, some information came my way that only made so much sense. It's not new information, that is without a doubt, but I suppose my mind was only finally open to it and it sunk in. having a clearly attached with your targets is so important I FINALLY understand. And much more importantly, why your "why" should be in front of you all the time.

Here is what I learned: the cause so many individuals fail to achieve the goals they set for themselves is they focus too much on the process of achieving those goals, instead of their "why" for the target itself.

Like, the #1 target set each Jan. 1st would be to lose weight. So many people seriously set this as a for themselves as each new year begins, yet so many never realize their goal. Why? Because they focus on the procedure of reaching that goal, instead of why they have the goal in the initial place.

The procedure of losing weight isn't all that exciting, to be certain. You have to get moving, change your routines, be consistent, and as you work through the method be patient. If you decide you're likely to walk briskly for thirty minutes each weekday, what goes on the very first day it rains?

Your ideas will likely appear something similar to, "No, I'd really rather not get soaking wet currently, thank you very much", if you're focusing on the process.

But if you're centered on your purpose of experiencing more energy and being able to keep up with your children or grandchildren, then you'll likely be considering, "Ok, where could I take my walk that I'll not risk pneumonia in the process?"

I've resolved to just take note of goals for which I've a strong "why." I encourage you to do the exact same. Forget what everyone else's goals are. Forget what everybody else says you need to be able to achieve. What do YOU want to why, and accomplish?

WHY?

Once you figure that out, then make living easier on yourself and keep these "whys" in clear view. Concentrate on how you'll sense when you accomplish the target - live it NOW.

Check the method that you talk about the goal.

Pay attention to the benefits of one's "why", not the problems of the procedure.

Tell someone else about your target, so you have someone to say and go to later, "Please...remind me why I'm achieving this again"? It may make most of the huge difference in the world...in your world.
