A Moment to Change a Life

I was reading through some motivational quotes one day when I stumbled upon one that actually made me stop and contemplate it. A simple one liner that was so profound to me. I've probably read a million motivational quotes during my lifetime, and I'm sure I've read this before as well. But I'm learning that where you are in your life determines what your mind is open to, what you will actually accept and ponder. I've been accused of having a closed mind by those around me, but my mind has always been open to what I needed or wanted to hear or experience at any given moment. I have a successful and happy life by my definition. I suspect it just didn't line up with what they were open to at the time that made me appear to be hard headed to them.

Motivational Quotes Move People

Anyhow, I was reading through some quotes and this one just seemed to jump off the page-- "When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be."-- Lao Tzu. Now there were hundreds of motivational quotes from hundreds of authors spanning thousands of years, but in that moment ... That was the one for me. It made me instantly ponder on where I was in my life, where I have been, but more important, where I was going.

Motivational Quotes Build Fires

Somewhere along the course of my life I had let my dreams diminish. I let circumstances and situations, and attitudes, and economies, and jobs, and bills, and so many other things reshape my mind and my destiny. And even though I've been pursuing goals and progressing towards a better life, I lost sight of the big picture ... the dream. My ultimate destiny, if you will. I've had the same dream in my heart since I was a youngster, and I'm coming up on 50 now.

I believe my subconscious mind never let it go which led me to reading motivational quotes and pinpointing the exact one I needed at the exact time I needed it. I have a new fire within me that I feed daily and it just keeps growing. I guess that's why they're called motivational quotes, right?Ha-ha!

Motivational Quotes Create Questions

The one thing that I think about the most from that experience is the effect it had on me at that moment. How powerful a 14 word sentence from someone I don't even know or never even met could be. What kind of effect do I have with my words? I suspect just as powerful and moving if I say the right things, at the right time. And if I can say the right words and get them in print ... then they're actually timeless, right? More important ... what do my kids hear from me and what do they need to hear in their lives right now?

The questions just started flowing, followed by a quest for answers. And most of the answers are already here within me waiting to be discovered, which in the search only creates more questions. But that's a good thing, because now I wish to know what I might be:)
