Calculating outs (how many cards that could improve your hand) and pot odds (ratio of the money in the pot versus the total amount needed to make your next call) is usually used as a basis for a Texas Hold Em Poker person on whether to draw and try to make their hand.

But this I think should not function as sole foundation of your decision on whether you should draw for another card.

You also have to decide on if the hand that you are wanting to reach will get you the pot or not.

Just how to calculate container odds:

In this example, if the current pot includes $80, and the total amount required at the following call is $20, the pot is putting you odds of $80 to $20 or 4 to 1.

So long as your likelihood of making the best hand are 4 to at least one or better than making the contact is the right move. A hand that is 4 to 1 means that you will strike once in every 5 tries. You'll strike the draw 20 per cent of the time.

This next example considers determining pot odds and outs.

Assume that the hole cards are a six and an eight (for this example matches do not matter) and the flop came down 8-9-3.

In order to complete your hand you need a 5 or 10. You've eight outs 4-5s and 4-10s. Flourish your outs (8) by you and 4 get 32. You've a 32 per cent chance of making your hand. You would multiply by two if there clearly was just one card left to bring.
