Nominated for 7 Emmys in its first five months, Law & Order SVU (Special Victims Unit) remains the success of NBC's hit Law & Order franchise. The brainchild of Order & Law founder Dick Wolf (former writer for hit SHOWS such as Hill Street Blues and Miami Vice), Law & Order SVU is filmed on location in New York City. It follows the traditional half-police drama/half-courtroom drama structure that made its precursor a striking success, however SVU focuses specifically on sexually based crimes

Law & Order SVU tells the tale of a group of devoted detectives who work for the elite group the Special Victims Unit known. Capt. Brian Cragen (Dann Florek) heads up the system which include four typical investigators - Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), John Munch (Richard Belzer), and Odafin Tutuola (Ice-T). While analyzing rapes, murders, and other horrible crimes, the detectives frequently talk to police psychiatrist Dr. George Huang (B.D. Wong) who provides special insight in to the heads of suspected predators. Once the detectives get the mandatory evidence, their case is turned by them over to Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak (Diane Neal) who agents deals and prosecutes the cases that put these nefarious criminals behind bars

The Order SVU DVD & Law includes a quantity of dramatic episodes including the series premiere "Payback" where a cab driver is identified stabbed to death together with his genitals stop. They discover that the man is a soldier from the Serbo-Croatian conflict and that he was a rapist, when detectives Stabler and Benson investigate. Benson, a child of rape, is sympathetic to the actions of rape victims, and Stabler must preserve her from crossing the line to safeguard the likely suspects Other significant periods from Season 1 contain "Sophomore Jinx" in which a college student's murder investigation is obstructed by the college when the SVU suspects a s) of the college basketball team, and "The Third Guy" in which an elderly person is tangled up and raped in her apartment, but the investigation requires a unique angle when the initial suspects are cleared and a new perpetrator enters the picture
