Recently I had the truly amazing satisfaction of hearing among my favorite artists, Groovelily, accomplish their original musical theater piece Striking 12 in Nyc. Before the show, as the band was warming up, the lead singer/violinist Valerie told us a robust story. Valerie had recently performed with her father at a function as a cantor to celebrate his lifetime contribution. Following the performance, an older woman came out to Valerie and told her about how she had played violin as a kid in Germany and how much playing the violin had meant to her. She proceeded to explain that when her family left the united states through the Nazi regime, she was not allowed to bring her precious violin with her to America because her family feared it'd mark them as Jews. Therefore, she spent my youth, got married, and raised a family. While she urged her son to play the violin (and he was raised to be a artist), she never participated or rekindled her love to play the violin again. Once the girl finished telling her tale, she held Valerie's hands tightly, looked her in the eyes, and emphatically said, "Keep on playing." Everytime I hear this story I'm deeply moved (yes, I love the group and have seen this fairly recent story numerous times already). I am moved as a result of my own ups and downs being an amateur artist who can consider a million reasons why I am not sufficient to be playing or how I should not be "wasting" time when you will find so a number of other more essential things to do. Because I am inundated with the absolute amount of generation, beauty, joy, and interest that's lost these days daily because therefore many individuals have abandoned their passions and joy for the a whole lot more "important" and "serious" business of life I'm also moved. Take the time today and consider: - What activities did you love to be a part of as a kid, teen, or young person? Would you still participate in virtually any of those or related activities? - What did you dream of most planning to be when you spent my youth? - What are you doing when you have the most memorable, excited, or in the movement? When was the final time you spent time achieving this? If you're like most people I understand, you are probably laughing because it has been way too long since you have done some of these things that you do not even remember or you are muttering several reasons as to why you can not be doing these things. Several of those explanations may appear like: - I really do not have time - You will find more considerations to complete - It is impossible to complete given that I've a wife/husband/mate, career, children, home, an such like. - There's number way I can actually have what I wanted, it was only a fantasy. After all, I'm middle aged, heavy, and out of shape and certainly not planning to become an, NFL, WNBA, Broadway star, or rock musician in this lifetime, so why bother at all. Well, what if you can have and do what you most enjoy? What if you might get in touch with the essence of what you really needed and then do and go THAT? For example, maybe what really appealed to you about being a rock musician was making music and discussing it with others. That dream could be achieved by you at any age. Grab an old device you used to play and commence to just take lessons again. Learn something new. Volunteer to fairly share your music with kids, the elderly, or perhaps a church group. Yet another example might be that you loved the spirit of opposition and physical challenge inherent in the dream of playing professional sports. Well, you could have that too! There are many techniques for getting toned and remain competitive in sports at any age, while you might perhaps not be the next Lance Armstrong or Serena Williams. I've seen athletes in the Masters division of different activities play with an increase of heart and competitive spirit inside their 70s, 80s, and 90s, than many young professional athletes exhibit. I personally know people with demanding jobs and families who often compete in pattern and triathlons, run, or walk unknown numbers of miles each year for charity. So can you, when they can take action. My point is - you deserve to have happiness, love, and play in your lifetime. Yes, life can be significant sometimes and we all have duties, but it is owed by you to yourself to actually live only a little and give yourself the gift of some thing simply for you. You had be amazed at how just a little bit of time spent regularly on something which feeds your spirit may produce results ten times over in one other "more serious" elements of your life. This month, go looking for your long lost keyboard. Dust off your guitar, golf racket, paintbrushes, or writer's station. Give permission to yourself to rekindle the love, get the happiness, and PLAY.
