Recently, the South by Southwest music, picture, and involved celebration wrapped up after yet another successful year in Austin. Because it comes during spring break week, it's become my tradition to have a break from my teaching job to work for the event at one of many music sites. It's always a fascinating and enjoyable change of pace for me, and my students get a real kick out of saying their instructor performing at a club and reveling combined with the music lovers and club hoppers.This year was no different. 

The SXSW music celebration draws over 1400 companies and significantly more than 5000 music business experts to Austin, and that number doesnt also take into consideration these thousands joining the picture and interactive conventions which run simultaneously underneath the SXSW advertising, and Austin embraces them all with open arms. After all, the event pumps a substantial $30 million to the local economy, and annually, the crowds grow. At least at this time of year, Austin rightfully deserves, and proves its status because The Live Music Capital of the World. 

Live music venues per capita are boasted more by austin than any other city in the U.S., and host is played by clubs of all sizes, including a church to artists from all over the world through the four-night music festival. The party officially commences on Wednesday night with Austins own version of the Grammys, The Austin Music Awards. Jimmy Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, was a big winner, and Pete Townshend previously of The Who, took the stage with other Brit, Ian McLagan, now a precious Austin performer. 

At my club on 6th Street, we displayed bands from Nyc, Chicago, San Francisco Bay Area, and Amsterdam, and famous St. Patricks Morning with Irish Music Night on Thursday. Without exception, the members of the their entourages and rings were thrilled about playing Austin and getting the opportunity to be found by a producer or supporter, or acquired by an archive label. One band member excitedly informed me that after their show, they were acknowledged to collaborate on a significant movie soundtrack! At the least all through SXSW, Austin could be the city where dreams really can be realized. 

Up and down the 6th Street entertainment area and beyond, report professionals checked their times and hurried from club to club, munching sliced barbecue sandwiches and looking into the artists, who ranged from audio singer/songwriters to outrageously-dressed and spikey-coiffed punks and heavy metal screamers dressed in their expected black garb. 

Early one night, a nicely dressed middle-aged couple approached should they could purchase a ticket for the show me to ask. You must have a child doing, I smiled, simply because they were not at all your typical membership hopper. Obviously, their son was playing, and he had been followed by the proud parents to Austin for the display and a mini-vacation all the way from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. That time had been wonderful, with the temperature hovering near 80, and we talked for a while about their visit, and what they had seen and done whilst in Austin. The couple was exuberant in their praise and assured that next year they would be back for a longer vacation and would absolutely be bringing friends.

Later that evening, a girl from great BRITAIN dropped in to thank me for advocating Marias Taco Express, certainly one of my favorite places, and asked me to an private party in a hotel penthouse regional. Because this golden carriage that is SXSW has to reverse right into a pumpkin by Monday morning, I thanked her, but had to fall, and I'd some lesson plans to write.
